Quirke names starting XV for Offaly clash
The Laois SFC team to play Offaly in the first round of the O'Byrne Cup in Portarlington tomorrow (2pm) has been named by new manager Mike Quirke and his selectors.
There are debuts for Niall Corbet, Jason Moore, Gary Comerford, Darragh Connolly and Diarmuid Whelan .
There were no Portlaoise players considered after their run in the Lainster championship recently while the U-20 county team is in training for the Leinster championship.
The team is:
Nial Corbett (Clonaslee) in goal
Adam Campion (St Joseph’s) Gearoid Hanrahan (Mountmellick} and Trevor Collins (Graiguecullen) in the full back line
A half-back line of Eoin Buggie (Stradbally) Robbie Pigott (Portarlington) and Jason Moore (Portarlington)
John O’Loughlin (St Brigid’s) Paddy O’Sullivan (Portarlington) are midfield
The half-forward line is Garry Comerford (Ballincollig) Eoin Lowry (Killeshin) and Darragh Connolly (Ballyfin)
With Michael Keogh (St Joseph’s) Evan O’Carroll (Crettyard) Diarmuid Whelan (Ballyroan-Abbey) in the full-forward line.
Mike Quirke will be without the Kingston brothers, Donie and Paul, with the pair opting out for the year. Stephen Attride is also out of the panel as he is travelling to Australia.
