Colin Fortune has left the club just days before their Europa Cup play-off.
Colin Fortune is leaving his position as Athlone Town Women's Team Manager with immediate effect.
The shock news comes just days ahead of the Europa Cup play-off meeting with Glasgow City.
Athlone say they accept Fortune's resignation with "disappointment" and "gratitude".
Fortune succeeded Ciaran Kilduff in the position and led Athlone through a historic run in Europe, beating the champions of both Croatia and Serbia on the way to Wednesday's play-off.
He leaves the club at the top of the Women's Premier Division, four points clear of Shelbourne, and in the semi-finals of the FAI Cup.
