Alex Dunne became the first Irish driver to feature on an F1 weekend in 22 years.

Offaly teenager Alex Dunne clocked the fourth fastest time of the day on his Formula One practice debut today.

The Clonbullogue teenager spent the first half his session performing aero tests before being released for performance runs.

The McLaren junior, deputising for Lando Norris, became the first Irish driver to participate in a Formula One weekend for 22 years.

He clocked a fastest lap time of 1:05.766, just 0.091 off his F1 Championship leading team mate Oscar Piastri.

Dunne was just 0.224 behind George Russell in the Mercedes who topped the session.

The F2 Championship leader was also quickest in Free Practice for Rodin Motorsport in the junior category earlier today to finish ahead of Gabriele Mini and Arvid Lindbald.

The Clonbullogue man qualified in seventh place in F2 qualifying at the Red Bull Ring in Austria at end of an incredibly busy day and landmark day for the Offaly driver.
