Westmeath scored a fortunate early goal and saw a late Clare strike ruled out in TEG Cusack Park.

Dessie Dolan is reflecting on a close-call for Westmeath against Clare, in the Allianz National Football League over the weekend.

Dolan watched his side take a fortuitous early lead after scoring a goal through Conor Dillon in four minutes, only to reach the break six points down after facing a stiff wind in the first period.

In the second half, with the breeze at their backs, and some sharp shooting late on by Ray Connellan, Sam McCartan, and Ronan O'Toole Westmeath emerged from a testing encounter with two league points.

Clare had a late goal disallowed before O'Toole hit the winner, and the Westmeath manager tells Midlands 103 commentator Gerry Russell he accepts it could have been a different result on the day:
