Irish Fighter Extends Unbeaten Record To 9-0 At UFC 273

Ian Garry needed a judges decision to defeat Darian Weeks.

Ian Garry extended his undefeated record to 9-0 with a unanimous decision over Darian Weeks at UFC 273.

Garry was tested in the final preliminary fight of the night where he was forced to rely on his improved wrestling defence to guide him through to scorecards of 29-28, 30-27, and 30-27 in the eyes of the judge.

The first round set the tone for all three with Weeks having major success backing Garry up against the fence in an attempt to neutralise his superior striking game. Staying patient and keeping a strong base Garry kept the fight standing or clinched not allowing the fight to hit the mat.

In the brief exchanges that did happen in the open Garry showed he was in control, but they were few and far between so the first stayed pretty even matched.

The fights second round very much showed the same pattern, but for Weeks managing to take the Irishman’s back attempting a big throw take down that was avoided near the end of the round.

The third and final round was where Ian Garry really came into his own, despite having his nose busted up early he took control, staggering his opponent with a heavy counter right hook that was by far the cleanest shot of the fight.

Opting to take Weeks on at his own game Garry utilised his own wrestling offence, backing his opponent up safe in the knowledge he had banked the final round and could avoid a dog fight late on.

Remaining undefeated after his second UFC fight Ian Garry now sits at 9-0 and having headlined the prelims of a major UFC Pay Per View will likely now move on to the main card for his next contest
