The 24 year-old failed to impose himself during his spell in the midlands.
Athlone Town have announced the departure of Johnathon Carlin.
The Donegal man joins Armagh City FC of the Northern Irish Football League.
The 24 year-old joined Athlone from Cabinteely where he made the breakthrough as appeared in 16 of 18 league games as Pat Devlin's team surprised the rest of the SSE Airtricity League First Division for much of last season.
We can confirm that Jonathan Carlin has left the club and joined NIFL side Armagh City FC.

Much was expected when he made the move to the midlands but he could only manage two appearances from 14 games so far this season.
The excellent start to the season and solid partnership of Killian Cantwell and Dylan Hand caused much of that, as Adrian Carberry preferred to keep a settled backline though the opening stretch of games.
The club took to social media to wish Carlin well in the future.
