Laois And Offaly Clubs Claim National Gold At Track And Field Championships

Ruby Millet and Madison Mooney were crowned national champions over the weekend.

The Midlands has three new national champions after this year's Senior Track and Field Championships in Santry.

St Abbans AC's Ruby Millet took the crown in the long jump, by just two centimetres, with a winning mark of 6.47 metres.

Lauren Callaghan from Finn Valley A.C. was second while bronze went to Elizabeth Ndudi from Dundrum South Dublin AC.

Her clubmate Daena Kealy also claimed a national title after clearing 1.87 in this year's high jump to set a massive personal best and claim gold.

While Tullamore Harriers runner Madison Mooney is Ireland newest 800 metres champion after claiming gold by edging out number one ranked Emma Moore from Galway City Harriers in a time of 2:04:38.

Alex O'Neill was third for Limerick Track AC.

There was silver for Mullingar Harriers who saw Aoife Lane finish second to Kate Veale of West Waterford in the 5k walk.

Mullingar's Cormac Dalton competed in the men's 1500 final won by Andrew Coscoran. Dalton kept with the pace until the last lap and came home in a time of 3:49 for a ninth place finish.

Elsewhere there were more medals for the Offaly club after Danielle Donegan secured bronze with a PB run in the women's 5000 metres.

While the quartet of Alisha Maher, Lucy Champ, Eimear Cotter and Rachel Keane finished third in the women's 4 x 100 metres relay in a time of 49.02.
