There was no shortage of drama around Laois football this year.
The year started relatively positively for the Laois senior footballers.
There were three straight wins for Billy Sheehan's men in Division Three until defeat against Oisin McConville's Wicklow provided the first warning that 2023 would prove to be year of inconsistency, and ultimately disappointment.
Promotion from the basement division was missed, the O'Moore County's Leinster campaign was ended emphatically by Dublin in Portlaoise, and their Tailteann Cup exit at the semi-final stage cost Sheehan his position with the county.
Positive wins and performances against Fermanagh and Limerick weren't enough to counter the negatives.
2023 saw the arrival of St Joseph's at the summit of Laois football for the first time since 2000.
Mick Dempsey's side saw off Portlaoise to complete a remarkable campaign.
And the Laois ladies were back playing senior football, before which, they were competing in the Division Two league final.
