Senior Championship starts at O'Moore Park
Senior club hurling action returns to Laois this week
The competition begins with two groups of four. The winner of each group will progress straight to a semi final.
Second and third placed sides will continue in the championship in quarter finals.
In a novel measure taken to avoid dead rubber finals rounds, matches will follow a winner versus winner and loser versus loser format after round one.
David Hollywood reports:
After Saturday's inter-county success at Croke Park, Westmeath's footballers get their club championship underway on Friday evening
