Laois Set To Name Cody And Comerford For Offaly Clash

Laois and Willie Maher are looking to evaluate a number of new and returning players.

Laois will take on Offaly in their Walsh Cup opener tomorrow evening.

Willie Maher has given Midlands 103 a preview of the players set to feature in their first game of the season.

The Tipperary man will pick a relatively experienced team for their meeting with the Faithful County at the LOETB Centre of Excellence in Portlaoise.

There will be four or five new players in the matchday panel, with Tom Cuddy set to start at wing back, Cody Comerford will come in at 10, Jack Quinlan will play corner forward, Lee Cleere is back from Australia and Diarmuid Conway returns from being in London.

Maher says he's happy with the blend of his squad heading in to tomorrow's game:

Offaly and Johnny Kelly have named their first starting 15 of the year.

Kelly says he's looking at "options" ahead of the new season, consequently, there is no representation from Kilcormac Killoughey in the team for Thursday's game.

Kelly says January is the right time to assess the county's wider panel:

Westmeath meanwhile will being their campaign against Dublin in Parnell Park.

Both games throw in tomorrow evening at 7.30pm.
