Laois SFC: Portarlington Look Well Set For Title Defence

Last year's champions were impressive winners on their return to championship action.

The Laois Senior Football Championship got underway last week.

All the pre season favourites managed to avoid defeat.

Defending champions Portarlington look well set to tilt at another title.

They were comfortable 2-18 to 0-11 winners over The Heath in O'Moore Park.

Among the other contenders, Ballyroan Abbey were convincing winners over Rosenallis.

It finished 0-19 to 1-9.

Portlaoise had 10 points to spare over Clonaslee St Manmans, the final score was 2-17 to 0-15.

League champions Courtwood impressed with a 2-9 to 1-8 win over O'Dempseys

St Joseph were 1-19 to 1-15 winners over Crettyard.

Graiguecullen beat Emo 0-19 to 1-8.

Arles/Killeen overcame Park Ratheniska 2-12 to 2-7.

While Killeshin went down to Stradbally in a high scoring affair.

The final score was 2-22 to 2-16

Round Two  

After the weekend's results, Laois GAA has made the draw for the next round.

In the winner's draw:

Portlaoise play Arles-Killeen, Stradbally face Portarlington, it's St Joseph's against Graiguecullen, and Courtwood take on Ballyroan Abbey.

In the losers draw,

Crettyard are against Park-Ratheniska, It's Killeshin playing Rosenallis, The Heath versus Clonaslee St Manman's, and Emo will meet O'Dempsey's.

All of the Round Two winners and losers games will take place on the weekend of August 7th to 9th.
