LOI Review: Up And Down Weekend For Athlone Town

Tommy Hewitt's side secured back to back wins on Saturday.

There were mixed fortunes for Athlone Town in the League of Ireland over the weekend.

The men's side were first up on Friday when they made the trip to the Regional Sports Centre in Waterford.

Keith Long's side raced into a 4 goal lead, all from Ronan Coughlan, before a spirited second half comeback saw the midlanders get three quarters of the required goals to come back.

However 4-3 is how it finished to consign Town to their fifth defeat of the season.

In the Women's Premier Division, Tommy Hewitt's side made it back to back wins after they overcame Cork City on Saturday evening.

Town took the lead early through Chloe Singleton and doubled that lead through a Dana Sheriff strike with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Midlands 103's Sean Comber was at Athlone Town Stadium, here's his run through of the main events of the game.

After the game he got Tommy Hewitt's reaction after an important win:

First Division leaders Galway United made it ten-wins from ten with a 4-1 victory away to Kerry.

Finn Harps were 1-0 winners at Wexford.

While Cobh Ramblers and Treaty United drew 1-1.

Bohemians are five-points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity Premier Division tonight.

Goals from Paddy Kirk and Declan McDaid saw Bohs win 2-nil at Drogheda.

Colm Whelan marked his return after a year out through injury with a goal in Derry City’s 3-1 victory away to Cork.

Shamrock Rovers got the better of the Dublin derby at Richmond Park, beating St. Pat’s 2-nil.

It finished 1-1 between ten-man Shelbourne and Dundalk at Tolka Park.
