Lowry Five Shots Behind Leader McIlroy After First Round at Southern Hills

Shane Lowry will be hoping to close the gap during his early start on day two.

Shane Lowry is five shots behind leader Rory McIlroy after the first round of the PGA Championship at Southern Hills.

The Clara man shot three birdies and three bogeys in a level par round of 70, which leaves him in a tie for 27th.

Lowry's group tees off their second round shortly after 1.30pm Irish time this afternoon.

McIlroy shot a five-under-par 65 on day one, giving him a one shot lead over Will Zalatoris and Tom Hoge [HO-GEE].

Seamus Power is one-over-par while Pádraig Harrington is seven-over-par.
