The Offaly golfer ripped through the Torrey Pines course with nine birdies and three bogeys.

He is in a tie for fourth place, two shots behind leader Kevin Yu.

Tom McKibbin is 3 under par after an opening round of 69 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship on the DP World Tour.

Rasmus Hojgaard and Ricardo Gouveia share top spot on 6 under par.

Padraig Harrington is one under par on his front nine.

Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow are in the field for the LPGA Tour's Drive On Championship in Florida, which starts today.
