The Offaly golfer produced two bogies, a double bogey, a four birdies to stay in contention.

A 6-under par round of 66 means Rory McIlroy is on his own in second.

The County Down golfer is two shots adrift of clubhouse leader, Cameron Young.

Seamus Power opened with a 1-over par round of 73.
