Midlands Olympians Could Still Face Last Minute Heartbreak

Events are due to get underway in the coming days.

The head of the Tokyo 2020 organising committee has not ruled out a last minute cancellation of the Olympics.

Japan's capital is in a state of coronavirus emergency - and the decision to hold the Games has not been universally popular with residents.

Events start tomorrow - with the opening ceremony on Friday.

Toshiro Muto says if the situation escalates, officials will meet again.


Kellie Harrington says she'll be "honoured" to carry the Irish flag with Brendan Irvine at Friday's opening ceremony at the Olympics. 

The boxers have been selected as flagbearers in recognition of boxing being Ireland's most successful sport at the Games. 

Dubliner Harrington will be among the top seeds in the women's lightweight division, having won world gold in 2018. 

Half of the 116 strong Irish team have now arrived in Tokyo.
