Megan Armitage has been selected on the Arkea Pro Cycling Team.
A midlands cyclist will make history on Sunday at the Tour De France.
A moment in time for Irish cycling as Offaly's Megan Armitage will officially be the first ever Irish female rider to compete in the women’s Tour de France race.
She's been included in the Arkea Pro Cycling team's selection for the events second edition. Team manager Franck Renimel has said that 'Megan has great climbing qualities. She’s capable of achieving great things on mountain stages, and has already demonstrated this during the season'.
The 26-year-old cyclist has already had a very strong year, winning the final stage and the overall classification in the Vuelta Extremadura Féminas in Spain in March, before netting fourth in the mountains classification in the Tour de Normandie Féminin later that month.
The week-long Clermont-Ferrand will begin on Sunday and will conclude one week later in Pau.
