The 37 year old is nine shots off the pace.
Shane Lowry has opened with a level-par round of 72 at the Farmer's Insurance Open on the PGA Tour.
The Clara man started off his round with back to back birdies but struggled to maintain that form, picking up 5 bogeys in total.
However the 37 year old did manage to pick up a birdie on the last to end the round on a positive note.
Lowry will be out to play his second round on the north course at Torrey Pines at ten-past-five this evening.
Sweden's Ludvig Åberg holds a two-shot lead over the field at nine-under-par.
