Division 1 hurling proved a difficult experience once against for Westmeath and Laois.
Galway beat the Lake County 4-27 to 1-12, while Laois were beaten by Dublin in Parnell Park 1-29 to 0-20.
The two midlands counties will now meet in a relegation play off.
