The Irish cyclist suffered the injury just days before she was set to take to the Grand Depart.

Irish cyclist Megan Armitage will miss the women's Tour De France this year due to injury.

The Offaly woman suffered a crash during a training session yesterday and won't make it to the start line on Sunday.

She was selected by team manager Franck Renimel as part of a seven side squad for the second edition of the new version of the Tour which begins on Sunday in Clermont-Ferrand.

The Arkea Pro Cycling rider was due to become the first Irish woman to ride in the famous race but will now have to plan for next year's event.
