Portlaoise Advance After Penalty Shootout

Craig Rogers converted the decisive penalty as Portlaoise advanced to the semi-finals of the AIB Club Leinster SFC in Aughrim yesterday.

The sides finished level at St Patrick's 2-8 Portlaoise 1-11 after two periods of extra time.

Portloaise won the penalty shootout by 5 goals to 4

The Portlaoise team manager Niall Rigney was thrilled with the result but said that the penalty competition was a very unfair way to settle a big game:

Portlaoise will meet Carlow's Eire Og in the semi-final

 

Westmeath champions Garrycastle are also through to the Leinster semi-finals.

They had to withstand a late rally from the Meath champions Rathoath in Mullingar but they emerged the two points winners 3-11 to 2-12 having led by 9 points with 10 minutes to go.

Former Meath star and pundit Bernard Flynn was impressed with Garrycastle:

It was a busy night and day for the Garrycastle manager Gary Dolan as his wife had a baby in the early hours of Sunday morning and he rushed to TEG Cusack Park for the big game.

Garrycastle will face Dublin champions Ballyboden St Enda's in the last four
