The Irish fighter is currently 8-0 inside the octagon across all promotions.
Undefeated Irish MMA prospect Ian Garry gears up for his second UFC appearance this weekend as he faces Darian Weeks on the prelims of UFC 273: Volkanovski vs. Korean Zombie.
The 8-0 fighter was last seen at UFC 268 in November where he scored a knock-out win over Jordan Williams in the final second of round one.
One of the latest in a long line of prospects to come through Cage Warriors, Garry racked up a perfect 6-0 record on his way to claiming their Welterweight title against Jack Grant in June 2021, but opted to vacate the belt when the UFC came calling.
Along with this signing came a relocation to America with the Dublin native moving to the Florida based Sanford MMA team, where he now trains with some of the biggest names in the sport. Including number four ranked Welterweight Vicente Luque who has been full of praise for the young Irishman.
Speaking with ESPN MMA Luque stated “I've trained with him...We got to train a lot and I think he's a beast, man... He hasn't been training for long and he's looking great, he's an unbelievable striker and man, I'm a striker myself and I look at him [and] he does make things look easy”.
Garry’s opponent on the night Darian Weeks is also making his second appearance for the company, Weeks has a 5-1 record and suffered a unanimous decision loss to Brian Barbarena on his UFC début last December.
A dangerous grappler with knock out power, Weeks has finished all five of his wins inside two rounds, he enters the contest as a sizeable underdog but seems unbothered by the odds differential.
Speaking with UFC.com Weeks stated
“I don't mind. He can have all the hype, he can have all the attention and all that credit by being the next big thing. That just puts more on his plate than mine. He has to go out there and fulfill all this anticipation and these things that people think about. He has to go out there and fulfill that in this fight. I just have to go out there and fight and beat the hell out of the guy”.
Ian Garry’s fight with Darian Weeks is currently listed on the prelims for UFC 273 which will get started at 1am Sunday morning. The main card will start from 3am and will be headlined by the Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski facing Chan Sung Jung
