Last season's beaten finalists Milltown were too strong for St Mary's, Rochfortbridge as they were 2-7 to 0-4 winners.
Elsewhere, St Joseph's had a 3-9 to 2-3 win over Garrycastle, while Coralstown Kinnegad and Mullingar Shamrocks played out a draw which ended 2-10 each.
The second round takes place this weekend.
