Under 20 Football Championship Quest Begins For Midlands Counties

Laois, Westmeath, and Offaly play their first group games of the campaign.

The midlands counties' under 20 football teams return to action this evening.

Kildare are the current kingpins of football at the age grade, while Offaly, Laois, and Westmeath will be plotting a path to the Leinster final at the end of April.

Laois will be hoping to go one step further than last year after the O'Moore County made it to the Leinster championship semi-finals.

Kildare were comfortable winners in that last four contest, winning by 14 points to go on to claim a second consecutive provincial crown.

Kieran Kelly's side play host to Carlow this evening.

Laois and Carlow are joined by Wexford and Wicklow in Group Two.

Westmeath made it as far as the quarter-finals last year, they're facing a rematch against Meath after the Royal County dispatched them in that last eight meeting.

Dublin are the third team in that group.

There was massive disappointment after Offaly departed the championship in the group stages.

The 2021 All Ireland Under 20 Champions begin this year against Louth.

Longford and Kildare lie in wait for the Faithful County in Group One.

All games throw in for 7.30pm this evening.
