Westmeath SFC Preview: County Championship Reaches Decisive Phase

Defeat for some will result in relegation play-offs.

Round three of the Westmeath Senior Football Championship begins this Saturday evening. 

There is much at stake with teams battling to reach the knock-out stages, and those scrambling to avoid the relegation play-offs. 

St Loman's and Tyrellspass will kick off the weekend's action as they clash in TEG Cusack Park, with a win for either side giving them a major boost in their hopes of reaching the knock-out stages. 

The Down's have a must win game against Coralstown/Kinnegad this weekend to keep their championship hopes alive.

They currently sit bottom of Section A, along with Killucan who also need a win this weekend versus Caulry. 

On Sunday in Section B, the action kicks off with the two early table toppers as Moate All Whites take on Tang. 

Both sides have 100% records heading into this encounter and will hoping to build on their early form. 

Later that evening a double header in TEG Cusack Park starts with Athlone in search of their first win of this season's championship as they face Shandonagh. 

Another Defeat for Athlone will bring them into dangerous territory in terms of trying to avoid the drop to Intermediate. 

And wrapping up the weekend, will be Mullingar Shamrocks taking on Garrycastle. 

A defeat for Garrycastle will be detrimental in terms of trying to avoid a relegation battle, while a win for Shamrocks will give them huge confidence in securing a knock-out place.
