Westmeath Victory Puts Lake County On Cusp Of Promotion

Westmeath can secure promotion and a spot in the league final if they can beat Down next time out.

Westmeath moved to within a win of promotion to Division Two of the National Football league after registering their fifth consecutive win of the campaign in Belfast yesterday.

Dessie Dolan's side reached the break ahead by the smallest possible margin but managed to pull away in the second half to secure a four point victory.

The final score was 0-13 to 0-9.

Down managed to keep pace with the Lake County over the weekend, their convincing win against Sligo means both counties will meet in Mullingar unbeaten with a chance to claim promotion and a spot in the league final with a win.

Dolan says his players have just overcome a tough block of games.

He tells Midlands 103's Gerry Buckley he's relieved to have maintained their unbeaten run, even if there's still areas to improve upon:
