A tremendous year for the North Westmeath side came to an end on Sunday.
It's been a magnificent 2021 for everyone involved with hurling in Raharney.
Following the angst of a relegation playoff last year, they bounced back with a bang in the Westmeath senior hurling championship and brought their club colours back to the provincial stage yesterday for the first time since 2018.
They were somewhat unlucky with the draw but testing themselves against a well-oiled Kilmacud team, who ultimately have bigger ambitions at the core of their season will stand them in excellent stead going forward.
The Westmeath men will be disappointed with their performance in TEG Cusack Park on some levels but when the time comes to reflecting on the year as a whole, they will do so fondly.
Manager Brendan McKeogh acknowledged as much afterwards:
'I can't say anything negative either way.
Kilamcud are a serious outfit and many county teams would struggle with them. For my own guys, from where we've come, to where we are now, I'd be proud of every single one of them.
When I meet any of them down the pub or at mass in twenty or thirty years time if I'm still alive, I'll think of the days we had this year, it's been a pretty special year for us.'
