It's the first programme of 2024 and on Countrylife this week MJ chats to the new man in charge of the ICMSA. Kilkenny native Denis Drennan is after taking the reins of the diary farming organisation and he chats about his own farm and the huge challenges facing dairy farmers namely labour and nitrates. Staying on the topic of dairy farming the annual Positive Farmers Conference takes place next week in Cork. One of the organisers Gillian O Sullivan chats about the event and her own family farm where herself and her husband left full time roles as small animals vets to pursue a career in dairy farming. Laois man Declan Hanrahan has just been elected the National Beef Chair of the IFA and he speaks about his role and how EU supports are hugely important for this low income sector. Old Moore's Almanac is 260 years old in 2024 and was originally the brain child of an Offaly man. The almanac has sales of over 60,000 copies per annum and its editor Nicole Buckler chats about it's history and some of the predictions it makes for 2024.
