On the programme this week MJ chats to Co. Laois farmer and cancer survivor Tom Cushen. Tom recently launched an awareness campaign for prostate cancer where he is encouraging famers to attend regular check ups to keep on top of their health. Westmeath man Stephen Fagan from Micron Agritech speaks about their system of real time testing for fluke and worms. The aim is to have one of their testing units in all vets' practices in the near future to reduce unnecessary anthelmintic use. Niall Reynolds from Soilworx speaks about their organic fertiliser which is made from chicken manure, the company feels there is a huge gap in the market for organic fertiliser given the launch of the National Fertiliser Database. The Health and Safety Authority have launched their annual drive to be vigilant when working at heights. Martina Gormely from the HSA speaks about this and also when choosing someone to help with a particular job on the farm that they are capable of whatever the task is. Peader Heffernan from Ballyboy Co. Offaly chats about their upcoming fundraising day which includes tractor pulling and testing the horsepower of tractors, all in aid of local charities. Tailjack is an invention to aid the training of dairy heifers in the parlour, it was conceived by a dairy farmer for a dairy farming problem, Kieran O Hara speaks about the design and the interest it has received to date.
