Country Life with MJ Clery

Thursday, 25 January 2024 - 44 minutes

With 1 in 3 farmers concerned that they will not have adequate cash flow to pay bills within the next 6 months, MJ chats to Philip O Connor from IFAC about this finding from their recent Irish Farm Report. It's a worrying statistic and shows that the high input prices and poor weather from 2023 is having a big knock on effect in 2024. It has been reported that Agricultural Consultants in Ireland are on the verge of striking as a result of increased workloads and deadlines, Noel Feeny from the Agricultural Consultants Association gives the background on this and answers the question as to whether or not consultants are about to down tools. Michael Hennessy from Teagasc gives the details about the National Tillage Conference which takes place next week. One area of huge interest is the potential synergies between the dairy and tillage sector and this will be discussed on the day. With Minister McConalogue recently announcing a draft ten point plan on improving the quality of dairy beef calves, Denis Drennan from the ICMSA chats about his disappointment as dairy farmers were not consulted on this plan from the outset.
