On the programme this week MJ chats to Minister of State Martin Heydon about one of the areas of his portfolio that of farm safety. With a huge proportion of accidents occurring at this time of the year with cows after calving, the Minister stresses the importance of thinking before acting when entering a calving pen with a freshly calved cow. Kildalton College have been educating young farmers for over 50 years and with an upcoming open day scheduled, Brian Clancy from the college chats about the courses on offer. Lorcan Roche Kelly from the Irish Farmers Journal speaks about the recently announced results of Kerry PLC and also how relying on merchant credit can be a very costly decision for farmers. Martin Coughlan from the Farming Independent chats about the livestock trade with a particular focus on the appetite for lighter store cattle in marts at the moment.
