1,310 People Close PUP Claim In The Midlands As Country Reopens

Over 15,000 people are still receiving the payment today.

1,310 people in the midlands have closed their Pandemic Unemployment Payment claim in the last week.

Most of those were in Westmeath, followed by Laois and Offaly - as retail and hospitality open back up under Level 3 restrictions.

6,500 in Westmeath, 4,500 in Laois, and 4,300 in Offaly.

Nationally, €103 million is being paid out in PUP payments today.

Christmas bonuses to the tune of €3.6 million are also being distributed to PUP recipients in the midlands today.

12,440 people in Laois, Offaly and Westmeath are receiving the seasonal top-up.

Nationally, €83 million is being paid out to 283,000 people claiming the PUP payment - 45 per cent of whom are under 35 years of age.
