25 Land Banks Approved For Laois Residential Developments

Most of the rezoned sites are in Portlaoise.

Laois County Council is approving the rezoning of 25 land banks for residential development.

The move comes following instruction from the Housing Minister for local authorities to zone for housing, paving the way for up to 8,000 new homes across the county.

Most of the rezoned sites are in Portlaoise, with others spread across towns and villages throughout Laois.

A proposed 28-acre site in Portlaoise sparked local objections, though councillors ultimately approved its rezoning.

Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley says she welcomes the plan but other facilities must be developed alongside new housing:

The sites are around Portlaoise, Portarlington, Mountmellick, Graiguecullen, Abbeyleix, Stradbally, Ballinakill, Durrow, Ballyroan, Timahoe, Ballylynan, Killeshin, Emo, Mountrath, Killenard, Ballybrittas, Emo, Vicarstown, Rosenallis, Clonaslee and Castletown.
