40% Of New Cars Registered In 2022 Were Either Electric Or Hybrid

40% of new cars registered last year were either electric or hybrid.

Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show there was an increase in the number of registrations of e-cars of 80 per cent in 2021 compared to 2020.

205 motorists in Westmeath opted for an Electric Car, with 158 people in Laois opting for one with Offaly registering 128. 

Petrol remains the most popular engine type, though, followed by diesel, which was around a quarter.
