50 Year Old Mast To Be Torn Down In The Midlands

It hasn't been operational in 15 years.

A RTE radio mast, which has towered above Offaly for 50 years, is being demolished.

The red and white structure in Ballycommon has been in place since 1973 and will be taken down tomorrow. 

The Grand Canal, between Campbell's Bridge and Lock 22, will be closed from 10.30 until lunchtime to faciliate its removal. 

The mast has not been operational since 2008.
