71 actions have been recommended to prevent, control and manage litter in Westmeath.
Athlone Moate's Litter Management Plan will serve the area up until 2026, and suggests actions such as trialing dog-fouling initiatives and monitoring litter black spots.
A report in 2022 found the local authority disposed of 301 tonnes of litter in the area, with cigarette-related litter and packaging among the most common items dumped.
