98% Of Vacant Home Tax Unpaid

Only 1,454 properties nationwide paid the vacant home tax last year.

98% of the vacant home tax is going unpaid at the monent according to the Irish Independent.  

Vacant home tax payments were made on just 1,454 properties nationwide last year, despite an estimated 80,000 homes lying empty.  

The Government’s proposed derelict property tax to tackle vacant and abandoned homes.  

In Laois, Portlaoise, Portarlington and Mountmellick will be included in the first phase, with Mountrath joining in year two.  

Offaly’s first phase will cover Tullamore, Birr and Edenderry, while Clara will be added in the second year of the scheme.  

In Westmeath, Mullingar and Athlone will be subject to the tax initially, followed by Moate and Kinnegad in year two.
