That's according to Portlaoise Garda Ronan Maher, who is encouraging people to get their applications in for the Garda Trainee programme before the 3 o'clock deadline today.
Trainees will receive an allowance of €354 per week for the 36 weeks of training and their accommodation and food is provided while in the Garda College in Templemore.
