A créche will also be provided.
A major housing development in the midlands has been given the green light.
Laois County Council has granted planning permission to Marina Quarter Limited for the construction of 195 new homes on the Dublin Road in Ballyroan, Portlaoise.
The plans include the demolition and site clearance of a disused farm, and four existing buildings in the area, and the provision of a new créche, and two ESB kiosks.
The development received nearly 20 submissions, which include concerns the project would impede the privacy of nearby residents, and impact existing traffic levels.
Planning permission was granted subject to 26 conditions.
