A survey conducted shows 70% of people are opposed to subsidies for the sport.
Almost 60% of voters are less likely to vote for a candidate who supports greyhound racing subsidies.
The figures from Norstat also show the majority of those surveyed believe the Dáil should begin to phase out greyhound racing entirely, at 52%.
26% do not want to see it phased out and the remaining 22% didn't know.
Close to 100 greyhounds were euthanised or died of a racing injury in the first six months of the year, according to Greyhound Racing Ireland.
