The midlands saw 183 recorded cases of rape and sexual assault last year.
It's costing the state almost €80m a year to house 800 sexual offenders in Irish prisons.
Figures from the Irish Prison Service, released under a freedom of Information request, also show an increase of 108 prisoners between 31st May 2024 and 31st May 2025.
