She was previously unsuccessful in the local elections.
Aontú have announced they'll be running Laura O'Neill as their candidate in the Longford-Westmeath constituency for the forthcoming general election.
Ms. O'Neill was an unsuccessful local election candidate in the Kinnegad area for the party in June.
She finished 12th of 17 candidates with a total of 397 votes from a valid electorate of just under 10,000.
