The 23 year old is accused of a raping a woman in Athlone in February.
A man accused of raping a woman in Westmeath in February is expected to apply for bail next week.
The 23-year-old asylum seeker, who cannot be named due to the nature of the charge and to protect the identity of the alleged victim, appeared before Judge Bernadette Owens this week at Athlone District Court via video link.
The rape is alleged to have taken place at a location on the Ballymahon Road, Athlone between February 16th and February 17th this year.
A bail application is expected to be made by the accused along with an update on the book of evidence on June 18th.
The man was remanded in custody and will reappear on that date before Athlone District Court.
