Midlands Schoolboy/Girls League's proposed centre of excellence has been turned down.
Plans for a centre of excellence to cater for Midlands soccer players have been refused by Offaly County Council.
The proposed 27-acre development between Clara and Tubber, would have been centred in the townland of Curraghboy or Woodfield, after the land was purchased by the Midlands Schoolboy/Girls League in 2022.
The organisation submitted a planning application in December to develop four new playing pitches, two grass pitches and two synthetic all weather pitches.
Council planners have decided the project "would be contrary to the Offaly County Development Plan 2021-2027".
They also cited the work that would "put an unnecessary burden on the local road network" as well as posing a risk to public safety due to a traffic hazard.
Planning permission for the Offaly section of the project was formally refused on February 5th.
