The Westmeath Councillor has already started canvassing.
Westmeath Councillor, Aengus O'Rourke is contesting in the Seanad elections next month.
He is in consideration for a number of panels to contest the seanad election on, the deadline for nominating bodies to make a decision is tomorrow.
The Athlone rep began his political career in 2009 and advanced to the town council in 2014, with his late mother, Mary O’Rourke, being the leader of the Seanad.
