A journalism award is set to be named after a Laois student who died following a hit and run last October.

The Joe Drennan Memorial Competition for Inclusive Journalism at University Limerick will recognise students that platform the voices of marginalised people.

The Mountrath teenager had just been appointed as the editor in chief of the student paper, the Limerick Voice.
