Bill Calling For Prison Time For Pet Theft Reaches Dáil

It's being introduced by Aontú leader, Peadar Tóibín.

There are calls for a prison sentence to be imposed for stealing a family pet.

 A bill is being introduced in the Dáil calling for a minimum 10-month prison sentence for stealing a dog or cat. 

Under current laws, the stealing of a family pet is the same as stealing an inanimate object.

But Aontu leader, Meath-West TD Peadar Tóibín, who's introducing this bill says losing a pet can be similar to a bereavement:
