Birr Leisure Centre Re-Opens Doors This Morning

The public amenity had been closed since early August.

Birr Leisure Centre is taking a gamble and re-opening its doors this morning.

The facility - which employs seven full-time and five part-time staff - had been closed since early August, after taking a serious financial hit from covid-19.

There was doubt over whether it would re-open at all, but board member and local councillor John Carroll says they're determined to provide the community with an outlet to exercise and socialise.

Having only received €1,500 in funding to help with the re-opening, Councillor Carroll admits they're still in a precarious financial state:
