'That Beats Banagher! and Banagher Beats the Devil!'
That's the famous phrase featured in a book by two Offaly historians.
Kieran Keenaghan and James Scully, co-authored the book exploring the origins of the phrase that has been running for 200 years, after the political borough of Banagher was sold in a parliamentary deal.
The book will launch on Friday at the Crank House in Banagher at 5:30pm.
James Scully is a retired primary school teacher living in Banagher, he says the sayings are steeped in folklore:
