Call For Visible Littering Deterrents To Be Ramped Up In Westmeath

Currently, the 'on the spot' fine for littering is €150.

A Westmeath councillor wants the local authority to increase visible deterrents to littering as a priority. 

Hazel Smyth says hiring more wardens and installation of CCTV are measures that can be implemented easily.  

The "on the spot" fine is currently €150, while a maximum fine of €3,000 can be imposed by the District court.
